The X86 is a CISC (Complex Instruction Set Computer) design and the ARM (Reduced Instruction Set Computer)is an ISA. The X86 is focused on relatively complicated, variable-length instructions that could encode more than one operation. ARM uses fixed-length instructions that each perform exactly one operation.
