Will Labradoodles ever be recognized by AKC?

Currently, as with other mixed breeds, Labradoodles are not considered a purebred or breed by the AKC and other major kennel club associations in North America. Technically, they are a hybrid of two pure breeds rather than a new breed.

Any two purebred dogs, registered with the AKC can have their litter registered with the CKC and therefore a first generation labradoodle can be registered without question. The breed falls into the misc. category until the breed is accepted by the CKC as other than misc.

Mixed Breed Dog Clubs of America is a national organization that hosts dog shows for mixes and mutts, and runs them in much the same way other competitions are run. Dogs are judged on Conformation, Obedience and Rally. Conformation is a big deal in traditional dog shows, but are more for fun in mixed breed competition.
